Half a day is enough to walk the old town, but two to three days lets you add the beaches on Čiovo and a day trip to Krka, Hvar or the Blue Lagoon. Most visitors find three days the comfortable sweet spot.
Wander the UNESCO old town, stand on the main square framed by the Loggia and Cipiko Palace, walk the Riva promenade at sunset, and swim from the public beaches on Čiovo. The old town itself costs nothing to explore.
Visit the Cathedral of St Lawrence and climb the bell tower, see the Kairos relief in the St Nicholas monastery, linger over a long lunch in a konoba, or take the short trip to Split's covered markets and Diocletian's Palace.
Trogir is smaller and prettier with a calmer pace, while Split has more nightlife, museums and transport links. Many visitors stay in Trogir for the atmosphere and treat Split as an easy half-day trip 20 minutes away.
Pick a base near the old town, line up a day trip or boat tour, and you've got Trogir covered.
